Former Program and Equipment

General field of research

Condensed matter physics; low temperature physics; superconductivity; magnetism; materials Physics

Topics of interest

Our main interest has been the synthesis and characterization of novel intermetallic compounds including ternary and multinary compounds, and their superconducting and magnetic properties.

levitating superconductor One topic has been the high-Tc-superconductors, their preparation in form of bulk polycrystalline material and the growth of single crystals, the determination of phase equilibria in the corresponding multinary systems, as well as the study of vortex pinning and critical currents.
We further arehave been interested in the relation between chemical composition and physical properties of materials, e.g. in ternary rare-earth silicides, quaternary borocarbides high-Tc cuprates and ruthenate-cuprates .

Keywords

Single crystal growth of high-Tc-superconductors
Vortex pinning and critical currents in superconductors
Superconductivity and magnetism under hydrostatic pressure
rutheno-cuprates
